Build Your Independence at Home-                                       Home Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy

Life can be pretty tough when you have problems with your mobility. Many Australians, especially as they age, have difficulty with everyday activities, which can impact strongly on their lifestyle and sense of independence.

Mobility does not just mean walking. It can encompass many aspects of daily life from getting out of a bed or a chair to catching a bus. Poor mobility can cause problems in other areas such as seeing friends or family, doing leisure activities, cooking, cleaning and living alone.

Mobility is complex. Many factors come into play to determine your mobility. Physical weakness or injury, illness and poor confidence are some that are common in people with mobility problems. These issues can also be associated with an increased falls risk.

There is a common misconception that older people cannot improve their strength and balance the way that younger people can. This is simply not true! Studies have demonstrated that people in their 60s-90s have the ability to make the same percentage strength gains as those in their younger years.

Thats where Vitality Health Services come in. Our highly qualified practitioners provide physical training and therapy to help improve the following parameters:

  • Strength and Flexibility
  • Balance
  • Functional activities eg getting out of a chair, lifting, cleaning etc
  • Indoor and Outdoor mobility eg stairs, uneven or changing surfaces/gradients, gutters, in/out of car
  • Leisure Activities eg bowls, golf, swimming, crafts etc

Vitality Health Services can also perform Home Safety Assessments for those who live alone/ with a carer or are returning home after a stay at a facility. This includes identification of potential obstacles and hazards around the home. We then thouroughly assess the client's mobility to determine their level of safety and the need for mobility aids or human assistance.

The aim here at Vitality Health Services is to help our clients be as independent as possible.

Building your physical capacity can help you to be more confident that your body will do what its supposed to when you need it to. The more confidence you have in your body’s ability, the lower your risk of falls and balance problems can become.
